As the societies of todays world get more and more money- and career-oriented, we tend to think, that the need for religion is diminishing. I find this statement untrue, as it is just a generalisation. I will present two examples, which I find most relevant, to support this thesis.
Present style of life has become tiring. After a decade of career-oriented money-makers , who fed themselves only with fast-food, we return to our sources, to natural life and national traditions. It already became trendy to do a lot of sports and eat healthier. Now to keep up with world trends and fashions one should find his own way of relaxation, and religion became the most popular of them. The eastern civilisations are especially inspiring. Buddhism and Hinduism became even more than religion, they are now styles of life.
However, in my opinion, the crucial evidence of still strong, when not even stronger, position of religion in our lives, is the reaction of the world to the death of John Paul the second . People of all nations and ages joined in common prayer. Teenagers proved that they believe in much more than money, work and success, that they believe in faith.
Finally I would like to state the cause of such a change in perceiving the world. We lack good role-models, apart from our parents, and therefore we seek inspiration and motivation in religion. To sum up with, I wish to emphasize that the need for religion is surely not diminishing, in my opinion it is becoming even more crucial than it had ever been before.
